Flow Crate

The latest Flow State mix, instantly.

Flow Crate fetches the newest post from the Flow State newsletter and plays the picks on your Spotify — or straight to your Sonos speakers with "Hey Siri, play Flow Crate."

Terminal
pipx install git+https://github.com/zizmax/FlowCrate.git
flowcrate

Requires Python 3.10+ and Spotify Premium. Runs entirely on your computer.

How it works

01

Install & run

Launch the server and open the dashboard in your browser. Flow Crate intentionally runs on your own computer: enabling access to the newsletter, Spotify, and Sonos speakers on your local network directly, authenticated as you, with no middleman server.

02

Connect Spotify

The Settings page walks you through creating your own free Spotify developer app to interact via API. Your keys never leave your machine.

03

Press play

The newest Flow State picks are automatically detected and matched on Spotify for instant playback or queue. For the full experience, install it as a background service on an always-on machine.

Features

Local-first

No accounts, no cloud, no telemetry. Your Spotify credentials live in ~/.flowcrate on your machine — nowhere else.

Sonos, direct

Speaks to your speakers over your local network using SoCo — no cloud round-trip, no Sonos account required beyond your existing setup.

Hey Siri

A one-tap downloadable Shortcut wires up voice control. Say "Hey Siri, play Flow Crate" and Siri confirms what's now playing on your Sonos.

Rate-limit friendly

Smart local caching means Spotify is only queried once per track, ever. Repeat listens are instant; your API quota stays untouched.
